Precious Lambs

It's officially Fall. Caleb started Kindergarten, the leaves are starting to change colors, and when I open the shades in the morning, it's hard to see through the fog. Yesterday evening I was pushing the kids on the swingset, trying to soak up every last minute of decent weather, and I noticed the aroma of the neighbor's wood stove in the air. I vowed right then and there that I would NOT turn on our heat until at least October. Maybe I'm a bit in denial, but since "Summer" didn't really even start until July, I'm not quite ready for these chilly fall mornings. With that being said, Micah turned on the heat in our bedroom this morning. And it was COLD.

Getting back into a routine has been nice in some ways. Our days are predictable, (but FUN!) our evenings with Daddy at work have more structure, and I get a couple of hours every night Micah works to work on projects or just relax. But still, life is busy. Between Caleb being in school 5 days a week now, Caitlyn taking ballet lessons, church, Micah working swing shift, and spending time with family and friends, it seems like the weeks are FLYING by. We keep remarking at how fast time is flying, and how important it is to write down the cute little sayings the kids come up with, and to try to remember them at each stage they pass through. Despite the busyness, I often look at the kids as we're playing in silly dress-up clothes or as I'm tucking them in at night, and I am reminded of my responsibility as a parent to teach them to enjoy the awesomeness of God's creativity.....the beauty of a sunset, the genius behind a spiderweb, the fruit of an apple tree.......They look at me with such awe and wonder as I try my best to explain different types of clouds, or the food chain, or where wind comes from. Though flawed and born with a sin nature like everyone else, I look at these precious lambs that God has graciously entrusted into my care, and my heart overflows with love and admiration for the wonderful little children they are becoming. They keep me humble, desperate for Jesus to shine through me so that I may teach them to follow in HIS footsteps. Being a parent is a challenging task, but so incredibly rewarding.
